The Lord is With Us

“Last summer, we were traveling out West,” a friend told me. “We had just crossed the desert when the fan belt of our car broke. What would we have done if we had broken down while we were in the middle of that desert! Boy, the Lord was really with us on that trip.”

As I was listening, I CONSIDERED for a moment what the man had said, then I replied, “The Lord would have been with you even if your fan belt had broken right there in the middle of the desert.”

So often we consider the Lord as a good luck charm, an indicator as to how we are doing. If things go well, “the Lord is with us.” Now if things go poorly, then the Lord must be against us, or perhaps momentarily looking away. The New Testament tells us that the Lord is with us always! Jesus said to His disciples, “I will be with you always, until the end of the age.”

Even when our circumstances are difficult and things aren’t going as planned, the Lord is near. He is with us always, even when the fan belt breaks.

Then Jesus came to them and said . . . “Surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”  (Matthew 28: 18 & 20)
