LOUISIANA TORNADOES 2017

Matthew 25: Ministries is responding to the tornadoes that struck New Orleans and surrounding areas on Tuesday, February 7.  The National Weather Service confirmed that at least three tornadoes touched down in southern Louisiana.  The tornadoes were described as “large, extremely dangerous and potentially deadly.”

Matthew 25: Ministries’ Disaster Response Team deployed Wednesday, February 8 at noon with Matthew 25’s complement of specialized disaster relief vehicles.  Joined by the Tide Loads of Hope mobile laundry unit, the trucks were loaded with relief supplies including personal care kits, household and cleaning products, first aid and safety kits and supplies, and additional items such as diapers, toilet paper, detergent pods, and tarps.

The team expects to arrive in the affected area by the end of the week.  The Disaster Response Team will continue evaluating all the areas affected by the weather.

DISASTER RELIEF DONATIONS

We will accept the following for disaster relief:

  • Monetary Donations*: Donate online or mail checks to Matthew 25: Ministries, 11060 Kenwood Road, Cincinnati, OH 45242.
  • Non-Perishable Food: PULL TOP canned vegetables, fruits etc.; ready to eat dry goods such as nuts, peanut butter, dried fruits, granola and trail mixes, jerky, ready to eat snacks; bottled water; ready- to-eat meals or MREs etc.
  • Personal Care Products: Antibacterial soap, hand sanitizer, toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, body wash, deodorant, lotion etc.
  • Cleaning supplies: Laundry detergents, general cleaner, sponges, bleach (powdered form is preferred), mops, scrub brushes, buckets, rubber gloves etc.
  • Paper products: Toilet paper, paper towels etc.
  • Baby and infant supplies: Diapers, wipes, diaper rash ointment, baby wash, baby shampoo, baby lotion etc.
  • First-Aid items: Bandages, gauze, pads, first aid tape, antiseptic creams, hydrogen peroxide, alcohol, latex gloves, instant cold packs etc.

*Donors who would like to designate their financial gifts for Tornado Relief may do so by writing “Tornado Relief” in the memo line of their check or by typing it in the “in honor of” field of our online giving form. Please mail checks to Matthew 25: Ministries, 11060 Kenwood Road, Cincinnati, OH 45242. 100% of donated funds designated for Tornado Relief will be used for the purpose intended.

 


UPDATES

UPDATE 2/09: Matthew 25’s Disaster Response Team will begin collecting laundry tomorrow morning with the Tide Loads of Hope mobile laundry unit, at Home Depot (12300 I- 10 Service Rd, New Orleans, LA 70128) from 9 AM – 5 PM. The team will also travel to surrounding affected areas to distribute supplies.

UPDATE 2/10: Today, our Disaster Response Team completed 32 loads of laundry and distributed approximately 18 tarps, 100 personal care kits, 100 cleaning kits, 100 rolls of paper towels and 400 rolls of toilet paper.

Tomorrow, the team will again collect laundry from 9 AM – 5 PM, or until they reach 100 loads. Many of the affected areas are still blocked by fallen power lines and debris. The team will continue to assess road conditions and distribute aid within the affected neighborhoods as access is improves.

UPDATE 2/11: Today, our Disaster Response Team completed 88 loads of laundry and distributed approximately 100 personal care kits, 100 cleaning kits, 100 rolls of paper towels, 400 rolls of toilet paper, 30 safety kits, 2 tarps, and 2 cases of diapers.

Tomorrow, the team will again collect laundry from 9 AM – 5 PM, or until they reach 100 loads. The team will also travel into affected neighborhoods to distribute supplies.

UPDATE 2/12: Today, our Disaster Response Team completed 104 loads of laundry and distributed approximately 50 personal care kits, 120 rolls of paper towels, 100 rolls of toilet paper, and 10 boxes of diapers.

Tomorrow, the team will again collect laundry from 9 AM – 5 PM, or until they reach 100 loads. The team will also travel into affected neighborhoods to distribute supplies.

UPDATE 2/13: Today, our Disaster Response Team completed 118 loads of laundry and distributed approximately 50 detergent pod samples, 50 personal care kits, 100 cleaning kits, 100 rolls of paper towels, 400 rolls of toilet paper, 5 cases of diapers, and 10 safety kits.

Tomorrow, the team will collect laundry at Home Depot from 9 AM – 5 PM. With a high chance of severe weather in the area, the team travel into affected neighborhoods to distribute supplies as the weathers allow.

UPDATE 2/14: Today, our Disaster Response Team completed 100 loads of laundry and distributed approximately 100 personal care kits, 50 cleaning kits, 20 safety kits, 100 rolls of paper towels, 400 rolls of toilet paper, 50 packs of wipes, and 55 tarps.

Tomorrow, the team will collect laundry at Home Depot from 9 AM – 5 PM, and distribute supplies throughout the affected areas.

UPDATE 2/15: Today, our Disaster Response Team completed 100 loads of laundry and distributed approximately 100 cleaning kits, 100 personal care kits, 100 rolls of paper towels, 400 rolls of toilet paper, and 40 tarps.

Tomorrow, the team will collect laundry 9 AM – 5 PM and also distribute aid throughout the affected areas.

UPDATE 2/16: Today, our Disaster Response Team completed 66 loads of laundry and distributed approximately 3,500 bottles of water, 75 personal care kits, 50 cleaning kits, 10 safety kits, 50 rolls of paper towels, 200 rolls of toilet paper, and 2 tarps.

Tomorrow, the team will begin their return trip to Cincinnati.
