SOUTHERN FLOODING 2016
UPDATED WEDNESDAY, MARCH 23, 2016 9:35 AM EST
Matthew 25: Ministries responded to massive flooding that submerged huge regions of the South. More than 17 million people faced threats from the historic storms that pounded multiple southern states. Six people were confirmed dead this week as a result of the storms.
Rivers continued to rise to record levels in parts of Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas and Mississippi, flooding thousands of homes. The flooding was considered the worst since 2012, when Hurricane Isaac deluged much of this same area. Flood warnings were in effect across the region as many rivers ran dangerously high. This severe flooding was the result of a slow-moving storm that dropped as much as two feet of rain on the region in a week.
Matthew 25: Ministries’ Disaster Response team departed at 9:00 AM on Wednesday, March 16 with Matthew 25’s complement of specialized Disaster Relief vehicles. Joining the Tide Loads of Hope mobile laundry unit, the trucks were loaded with relief supplies including P&G Comforts of Home personal care kits containing items such as Secret deodorant, Crest toothpaste and Pantene shampoo as well as household cleaning products like Bounty, Mr. Clean and Swiffer. The trucks also distributed Cintas first aid and safety supplies, and additional items such as Pampers diapers, Charmin toilet paper and tarps. The team traveled throughout the region, establishing central distribution sites and also delivered products to hard hit areas.
“This is a wide-spread disaster of historic proportions,” said CEO Tim Mettey. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of the affected areas during this time of need.”
