MATTHEW 25 RESPONDs TO TWIN TORNADOES IN NEBRASKA

Matthew 25: Ministries' Disaster Response team left Tuesday afternoon at 1:00 PM for Pilger, NE and surrounding areas that were hit with tornadoes on Monday. Twin tornadoes swept across northeast Nebraska on Monday afternoon, leaving significant damage, injuries and at least one death in and around the town of Pilger. The small town of approximately 380 was devastated by the storm. At least half of Pilger was destroyed by the tornado, with most of the damage in the southern part of the community.

Matthew 25: Ministries’ advance team, led by Disaster Relief Manager Ben Williams, left with Matthew 25’s complement of specialized Disaster Relief vehicles and with relief products. The team distributed aid to families in Pilger and will reach out to surrounding communities affected by the tornadoes. Products included personal care kits, toilet paper, paper towels, diapers, baby wipes, tarps, safety glasses and water.

Matthew 25 is accepting the following donations for disaster relief:

  • Monetary Donations: Donate online, mail checks to Matthew 25: Ministries, 11060 Kenwood Road, Cincinnati, OH 45242.
  • Non-Perishable Food: PULL TOP canned vegetables, fruits etc.; ready to eat dry goods such as nuts, peanut butter, dried fruits, granola and trail mixes, jerky, ready to eat snacks; bottled water; ready- to-eat meals or MREs etc.
  • Personal Care Products: Antibacterial soap, hand sanitizer, toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, body wash, deodorant, lotion etc.
  • Cleaning supplies: Laundry detergents, general cleaner, sponges, bleach (powdered form is preferred), mops, scrub brushes, buckets, rubber gloves etc.
  • Paper products: Toilet paper, paper towels etc.
  • Baby and infant supplies: Diapers, wipes, diaper rash ointment, baby wash, baby shampoo, baby lotion etc.
  • First-Aid items: Bandages, gauze, pads, first aid tape, antiseptic creams, hydrogen peroxide, alcohol, latex gloves, instant cold packs etc.

Donors who would like to designate their financial gifts for Nebraska Tornado Relief may do so by writing "Nebraska Tornado Relief" in the memo line of their check or by typing it in the "in honor of" field of our online giving form. Mail checks to Matthew 25: Ministries, 11060 Kenwood Road, Cincinnati, OH 45242. 100% of donated funds designated for Nebraska Tornado Relief will be used for the purpose intended.

DISASTER RELIEF VOLUNTEERS

MATTHEW 25 RESPONDs TO SEVERE TORNADO OUTBREAK ACROSS U.S.

Matthew 25: Ministries is responding to the devastation left behind after a severe tornado outbreak that is creating destruction in the South and Midwest, including Mayflower and Vilonia, AR and Tupelo, MS. Matthew 25’s advance team, led by CEO and Disaster Relief Coordinator Tim Mettey left on Monday, April 28 with Matthew 25’s full complement of specialized Disaster Response vehicles, including three customized pick-up trucks, two co-branded delivery trucks and an ice maker capable of producing 10,000 pounds of ice a day. The trucks were loaded with relief supplies including personal kits, paper products, tarps, blankets and beverages. The team will continue to establish distribution sites and also deliver products to hard-hit neighborhoods.

The team distributed relief supplies—including personal care kits, toilet paper, paper towels, tarps, ice, safety masks, antiseptic wipes, safety glasses and ice—to families in Mayflower and Vilonia, AR. The team also traveled to Mississippi where they delivered aid to the residents of the tornado-stricken towns of Tupelo, Mantachie, and Ritchie.

Matthew 25: Ministries will be sending aid to disaster locations and will utilize their mobile disaster relief resources to the best advantage of those affected.

INITIAL REPORTS OF DAMAGE

The massive tornado struck Mayflower, Arkansas the evening of Sunday, April 27. The twister left a large path of devastation through Mayflower and nearby Vilonia, which are located near Little Rock, including areas that were hit by a storm in 2011. The twister left a path of destruction 30 miles long and ½ mile wide. At least 16 deaths are attributed to the storm.
