Matthew 25: Ministries’ Hunger 5K Benefits Matthew 25’s Work with Those in Need!
OCTOBER 20, 2017 Cincinnati, OH – The twelfth annual Hunger 5K Run and Walk Sponsored by Brandicorp and Lang Financial Group on November 4th benefits locally based humanitarian aid and disaster relief organization Matthew 25: Ministries. The race on November 4th kicks off the Hunger 5K Food Drive which provides much needed non-perishable food items to over 40 local food pantries and shelters during the holiday season.
Now in its 12th year of helping to fight hunger in Greater Cincinnati, the Hunger5K and Hunger5K Food Drive have raised more than 700,000 pounds of food for Greater Cincinnati’s poor. In 2016, 23% of Matthew 25’s 15,000,000 pounds in distributions stayed in the US and 4% stayed right here in Greater Cincinnati, benefiting approximately 75 local partners including more than 40 pantries and shelters.

There will be fantastic food, chocolate fountains, face painting and more at the Hunger 5K Afterparty. A surprise local celebrity will kick off the race at 8:30 AM and local vocalist Pam Noah Leonard will sing the National Anthem.
Participants can save $10 by registering in advance and all participants receive a long sleeve t-shirt, bag and other gift items. Group discounts are available for groups of six or more. The Hunger5K’s registration site, www.hunger5k.org also offers expanded opportunities to start a group, invite friends to join or to fundraise. Team captains receive a “champion gift” and there are tiered prizes available to fundraisers. All participants are automatically registered to win one of hundreds of fabulous door prizes. There are multiple race categories with awards to the first three winners in each category. Details of the USATF certified course for the 2017 event are available at hunger5k.org. Chip timing will be provided by End Result. The Hunger5K has received the official “Squeal of Approval” from the Flying Pig Marathon.
All proceeds from the race and the food drive benefit Matthew 25: Ministries’ work with the poorest of the poor in Greater Cincinnati, throughout the US and in more than 60 countries around the world. Participants are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to the race or the food drive. Matthew 25: Ministries accepts food donations from local individuals, groups and organizations, as well as bulk donations of food from corporate donors. Matthew 25 also welcomes financial gifts for the purchase of additional food staples. Non-perishable food items can also be dropped off at Matthew 25: Ministries from 9 – 4 Monday – Friday and 9 – 3 on Saturdays through November 30. All food donations are distributed to Greater Cincinnati pantries and shelters during the holiday season.
Lack of food is a critical local and global issue. Many Ohio households with children reported that sometime during the past year, they were not able to purchase enough food to adequately feed their families. Approximately one in five Ohio children lives in poverty and one in four lives in a household that struggles to buy food.
Matthew 25: Ministries accepts cash, credit card and internet donations for ongoing disaster aid and humanitarian relief programs. More than 99% of Matthew 25: Ministries’ cash and in-kind donations go toward programs. 100% of designated funds are used for the purpose intended. Matthew 25 also welcomes volunteers six days a week at their Blue Ash facility.
