Tornadoes Wreak Severe Damage In & Around Kokomo


AUGUST 25, 2016  Cincinnati, OH – Matthew 25: Ministries, an international humanitarian aid and disaster relief organization located at 11060 Kenwood Road in Blue Ash, is responding to the tornadoes that swept through Kokomo, IN on Wednesday evening. The National Weather Service reported that an EF3 tornado with winds of up to 136 miles per hour struck Kokomo, a town about 40 miles north of Indianapolis.  Throughout the day, eight tornadoes touched down across the region.  The tornadoes damaged dozens of homes, flattened and ripped roofs off buildings and piled cars on top of one another, injuring as many as 20 people.  Power was knocked out across the region, with more than 36,000 households affected.  As many as 700 to 800 people may have been forced to leave their homes.

Matthew 25: Ministries’ Disaster Response team is leaving on Friday, August 26 at 8:30 AM with a selection of Matthew 25’s vehicles.  The team will travel throughout the Kokomo area, delivering products to hard hit neighborhoods.  The vehicles will be loaded with supplies including tarps, personal care and cleaning kits, safety supplies and paper products.

This was a very concentrated path of destruction that left behind significant devastation,” says Matthew 25 CEO Tim Mettey. “Our team will bring the supplies that people need to protect their belongings and support their basic needs during the first phase of recovery.  Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Kokomo during this time.
