Massive Flooding Devastates Huge Area of South and Gulf Regions

MARCH 15, 2016  Cincinnati, OH – Matthew 25: Ministries, an international humanitarian aid and disaster relief organization located at 11060 Kenwood Road in Blue Ash, is responding to massive flooding that has submerged huge regions of the South.  More than 17 million people are facing threats from the historic storms that pounded multiple southern states. Six people have been confirmed dead this week as a result of the storms.

Rivers continue to rise to record levels in parts of Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas and Mississippi, flooding thousands of homes.  The flooding is considered the worst since 2012, when Hurricane Isaac deluged much of this same area.  Flood warnings are in effect across the region as many rivers continue running dangerously high.  This severe flooding is the result of a slow-moving storm that dropped as much as two feet of rain on the region in the past week. Huge amounts of rain water are still flowing through swollen streams and rivers.

Matthew 25: Ministries’ Disaster Response team is leaving at 9:00 AM on Wednesday, March 16  with Matthew 25’s complement of specialized Disaster Relief vehicles.  Joining the Tide Loads of Hope mobile laundry unit, the trucks are loaded with relief supplies including P&G Comforts of Home personal care kits containing items such as Secret deodorant, Crest toothpaste and Pantene shampoo as well as household cleaning products like Bounty, Mr. Clean and Swiffer.  The trucks will also be distributing Cintas first aid and safety supplies, and additional items such as Pampers diapers, Charmin toilet paper and tarps.  The team will travel throughout the region, establishing central distribution sites and also delivering products to hard hit areas.

“This is a wide-spread disaster of historic proportions,” says CEO Tim Mettey. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of the affected areas during this time of need.”
