The Hunger 5K is a fun, family-friendly way for people of all ages to help those in need. Proceeds benefit Matthew 25: Ministries’ work with the poorest of the poor and disaster victims in Greater Cincinnati, throughout the U.S., and around the world. The race also kicks off the Hunger 5K Food Drive, which raises food products for local pantries and shelters.

Since the race began, over 1 million pounds of food have been distributed to people in need in Greater Cincinnati.

This year, the Hunger 5K will be virtual, meaning you can run or walk the distance of a 5K at any location and time during the designated dates that you’d like. You can even complete the event on a treadmill. Please be sure to obey all pedestrian safety and public health orders and guidelines while you participate.

Sleep in, then complete the run/walk, and share your photos on social media using the hashtag #H5K.

Register online. Enjoy sleeping in. Run/walk 5K. Share your #H5K.

What is a virtual race?

A virtual race is a race that can be run (or walked) from any location you choose, at any time. You can even run or walk on a treadmill! So feel free to sleep in if you’d like, then complete the run or walk, and then share photos on social media using #H5k.

How long is a 5K run/walk?

A 5K run/walk is equivalent to approximately 3.1 miles. You can track your distance using any type of activity tracker, phone app, map, or another tool available to you.

Do I have to complete my virtual run or walk on November 6?

You may complete your virtual run or walk any time between October 31 and November 6.

Can I run or walk on the traditional Hunger 5K course?

We ask that you do not use the traditional race day route as it is not pedestrian safe without the usual street closures and police assistance with traffic. Please remember to follow all laws, rules, restrictions, orders, safety ordinances, and guidance set forth by local, state, and federal governments related to pedestrian safety and public health.

How do I know how long it took me to complete my virtual race?

We suggest using your phone, running watch, or another device to time yourself.

Can I register in person?

In order to best protect your health and the health of our staff during the COVID-19 pandemic, and in alignment with recommendations from Governor Mike DeWine and the Ohio Department of Health, we ask that you please register online.

What if I don’t have a credit card, how do I register?

Please complete the registration form (closed) and mail your check or money order to Hunger 5K, Matthew 25: Ministries, 11060 Kenwood Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45242.

How do I register if I am in the military or am a veteran?

Active Military Members and Veterans are able to participate in the Hunger 5K for free!

Visit the registration page (closed) and select the “Individual Entry” category. Use the discount code “LIBERTY” when prompted during your online registration, and no payment will be required for your entry.

Why should I create a team?

Groups of 6 or more receive a discounted registration rate, and it’s a fun way to invite your friends and family members to join you in helping support Matthew 25: Ministries’ work with the poorest of the poor and disaster victims. If you do decide to run with your team, please remember to follow all laws, rules, restrictions, orders, safety ordinances, and guidance set forth by local, state, and federal governments related to pedestrian safety and public health, including social distancing.

I am a Team Captain; how do I print my list of team members?

You can visit the Team Lookup page and Log In using the password you created when you registered online. If you submitted a registration form to Matthew 25: Ministries, the password created for your Team Admin page is the first letter of your first name and your entire last name. (For example, John Smith’s password would be jsmith.) There will be additional information on this page as well as an easy way for you to print your list of team members.

How do I find out who is on my Team?

You may find the listing of team names and those who have registered for each team on the Registration website. Visit the Team Lookup page and Log In using the password you created when you registered online. There is a large list of names, so you may have to scroll through the list using the scroll bar on the right-hand side to find your team. When you select your team name, the list will repopulate with all team members who have registered.

Do you offer youth size t-shirts?

We only have adult size shirts available, so most children who participate choose to receive an Adult Small.

Can I pick up all the shirts for my team?

Hunger 5K shirts will be mailed to the address provided at registration. We will begin mailing shirts as registrations come in.

When will I receive my t-shirt?

We will begin mailing t-shirts as registrations come in. Please allow at least two weeks from the date you registered to receive your shirt.

How do I get a race bib?

There is a link in your registration confirmation email to download and print your individualized race bib.

You will receive a last-minute detail email closer to the event that will contain a link for you to download and print your individualized race bib.

If you don’t have access to a printer, feel free to design your own race bib using the individualized bib number provided in your confirmation email.

Do you need volunteers?

The virtual event does not require volunteer assistance. However, please visit Matthew 25: Ministries’ volunteer page for information about volunteering at our facility.

Do I have to pay for my child to participate?

Registration is not necessary for children in strollers or those under 10 unless you would like your child to receive the race t-shirt or individualized race bib.

How can someone donate toward my individual or team fundraising goal?

Anyone interested in asking friends and family to donate to the Hunger 5K in support of their individual or team fundraising goal needs to create a fundraising page by selecting the “Fundraise” button on the registration page and completing the form. Once the page has been submitted, simply forward the link provided in your confirmation email that will direct folks to your homepage to start raising support for the Hunger 5K!

Food Drive

The Virtual Hunger 5K kicks off the Hunger 5K Food Drive, which collects canned and nonperishable food for local food pantries and shelters. You can help fight hunger in our community by dropping off nonperishable food items at Matthew 25: Ministries Monday through Friday, 9 AM – 4 PM, Nov 1 – Nov 30, 2021. Please note: Matthew 25 will be closed Nov. 25-28 in celebration of Thanksgiving.

Through the 2019 Hunger 5K Food Drive, Matthew 25: Ministries distributed over 90,000 pounds of food to more than 40 local organizations. In total, the Hunger 5K Food Drive has raised over 1 million pounds of food for the hungry in Greater Cincinnati. Matthew 25: Ministries accepts donations from local individuals, groups, and organizations as well as bulk donations of food from corporate donors.
