Catastrophic Rain Surges Across Coastal Texas

AUGUST 27, 2017  Cincinnati, OH Matthew 25: Ministries, an international humanitarian aid and disaster relief organization in Cincinnati, OH is responding to Hurricane Harvey, which is dumping catastrophic amounts of rain along a 210-mile-long corridor between Corpus Christi and Houston.  Some areas northeast of Houston have already received 30+ inches of rain in 48 hours and more is on the way. The hurricane is expected to go down as one of the worst flooding events in US history. The National Weather Service forecasts rainfall of 15 to 25 inches through Friday, with as much as 50 inches in a few areas.  3 are confirmed dead as a result of the hurricane. There have been over 2,000 water rescues so far and 9 million are under flash flood warnings.

According to the National Weather Service, “This event is unprecedented and all impacts are unknown and beyond anything experienced.”

Matthew 25’s Disaster Response Fleet is prepped and loaded and the Disaster Response Team is on standby.  Joined by the Tide Loads of Hope mobile laundry unit, Matthew 25’s full complement of specialized disaster relief vehicles are loaded with relief supplies including P&G personal care kits, household and cleaning products, Cintas first aid and safety kits and supplies, and additional items such as Pampers diapers, Charmin toilet paper, Tide Pods, and tarps.  Matthew 25’s disaster response fleet also includes an ice machine that can produce up to 10,000 pounds of ice a day. The team tentatively plans to leave early in the week, depending on the storm’s track.  Initial plans are to head towards Rockport and Aransas Pass and then follow along Harvey’s path of destruction.

Matthew 25: Ministries is seeking additional volunteer assistance to prepare shipments of aid for the affected areas.  This is evolving into a catastrophic event with long-term impact.  Matthew 25 anticipates an extended response, with ongoing support to the most severely impacted regions continuing for months or longer.
