A Better Way

“…and let me show you a more excellent way.” (1 Corinthians 12:31)

The bridge was out. We needed to find another way home. A friend gave us directions. He said his directions would take us a new way and guaranteed better than the old way across the bridge. We followed his directions around the washed out bridge until they brought us to a crossroads. To the left the new way continued and the promise of an easier and faster way home; to the right the old way resumed and the promise of familiarity and security.

CONSIDER, Jesus does not say that there is only one way, nor does He say that our way is necessarily the worst way. It may even be a fairly good way. But Jesus does say that God offers a better way. However, in order to find out about this better way we first have to leave the old way and trust Him and His directions.

I would like to be able to say that I was an example of that trust the night the bridge was out, but I cannot! It was late and dark so I chose the old familiar way. All the way home I wondered about the other way. Was it a better way?
