A Perfect Fit

So that we may no longer be children,
tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine,
Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in
every way into him who is the head, into Christ.

The salesman said, “That’s a perfect fit!” My wife replied, “Then it’s too small!” New parents find out in a hurry that a perfect fit for a one year old is too small. Clothes have to be bought small enough so they can be worn, but large enough so they can be grown into.

CONSIDER the clothes of our faith. Shouldn’t the same growing process which governs our bodies also govern our faith? Do the clothes of our faith allow us room to grow or are they the salesman’s delight, “the perfect fit!”

Do we still think and believe as children? Are we open to new ideas and revelations from God? Is each day a challenge or a confrontation? Have we become too satisfied, too settled in, so that when the old buttons pop we merely sew them back on instead of finding something to wear which is more our size?

Dear God, may our search for the truth be never ending. May our lives be a daily journey toward understanding and appreciating the world You have created.

Amen.
