I recently overheard one of our young volunteers praying before lunch. “God is great. God is good. And we thank Him for our food. By His hands we are fed. Thank you, God, for gingerbread. Amen.”

“Oh no,” protested her brother. “It’s daily bread.”

“No,” she replied as she dug into her plate of food. “I like gingerbread!”

Consider the daily bread things of life, the things we need which God gives to make life exciting and fun: a new swing set, a good friend, a vacation, a birdie at golf, a walk on a beautiful day, a sweetheart.

Life is more than daily bread. It is also gingerbread, and when we pray and live we must never forget that. Both types of bread are essential ingredients to a happy and whole life.
