Listening With Our Knees
I read a bit of trivia the other day: “The grasshopper’s ears are located on its knees.” After reading that, I began to CONSIDER what a mix-up this world would be if our ears were located on our knees.
A speaker might say “Lend me your knees!” A choir director might complain about the “tin knees” of his people. We might even go to the doctor with a “knee-ache.” The latest fashion would be “knee-rings.” We would munch on a “knee of corn,” listen to music on our “knee-phones” and wear “knee muffs” to keep warm in the winter.
What a crazy thought . . . or is it?
Can you think of a better place to have our ears than on our knees, especially when talking to God? Kneeling in prayer…has this become old fashioned? If so, maybe it is because we have allowed listening to become old fashioned. The two often go together, kneeling and listening. We tell God that He is the master of our lives, and then listen for His direction. Maybe that is what would happen if our ears were on our knees!
“I will listen to what God the Lord says; he promises peace to his people, his faithful servants—but let them not turn to folly.” (Psalm 85:8)
