The Value Within

There they stood. Each tightly clutched their boxes, bags, containers of all kinds filled with silver coins, soon to be redeemed for 2000% over their face value. Their three hour wait in line was a small price to pay for such a large return on their investment.

Watching through the window of the coin shop, as one elderly couple poured a pile of silver coins onto the counter out of a Maxwell House coffee can, I wondered aloud, “What coin collector will pay that much for those coins?!”

CONSIDER how so often we feel that we are of little value, because there were so many minted in the year we were, or perhaps our date has worn off. We feel useless and so little worth. But to God these issues are of little concern. It is not our markings or our age. Our condition or face value has little to do with it. We do not even have to be mint perfect.

It is the spirit of man and woman that He sees within each of us, and it is that which he paid the highest price on the Cross in order to redeem.

“Oh, it isn’t the coins themselves,” answered a man. “It’s the silver in them.”

What is man that thou art mindful of him, and the son of man that thou dost care for him?
Yet thou hast made him little less than God, and dost crown him with glory and honor.
Thou hast given him dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet,
all sheep and oxen , and also the beasts of the field, the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea,
whatever passes along the paths of the sea.
O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is thy name in all the earth!
(Psalms 8:4-9)
