Matthew 25: Ministries’ Hunger 5K Benefits Matthew 25’s Work with Those in Need


OCTOBER 21, 2019  Cincinnati, OH – The fourteenth annual Hunger 5K Run and Walk Sponsored by Brandicorp on November 9th benefits locally based humanitarian aid and disaster relief organization Matthew 25: Ministries. The race on November 9th kicks off the Hunger 5K Food Drive which provides much needed non-perishable food items to over 40 local food pantries and shelters during the holiday season. Now in its 14th year of helping to fight hunger in Greater Cincinnati, the Hunger 5K and Hunger 5K Food Drive have raised more than 900,000 pounds of food for Greater Cincinnati’s poor. In 2018, 29% of Matthew 25’s 16,500,000 pounds in distributions stayed in the US and more than 380,000 pounds of supplies stayed right here in Greater Cincinnati, benefiting approximately 60 local partners.

Participants can save $10 by registering in advance and all participants receive a long sleeve t-shirt, goody bag and access to the huge buffet. Discounts are available for groups of six or more. The Hunger 5K’s registration site, hunger5k.org also offers expanded opportunities to start a group, invite friends to join or to fundraise. Team captains receive a “champion gift” and there are tiered prizes available to fundraisers. All participants are automatically registered to win one of hundreds of fabulous door prizes. Not participating but supporting a friend or family member?  Enjoy the H5K’s one-of-a-kind buffet for just $3. There are multiple race categories with awards to the first three winners in each category. Details of the USATF certified course for the 2019 event are available at hunger5k.org. Chip timing will be provided by End Result. The Hunger5K has received the official “Squeal of Approval” from the Flying Pig Marathon.

All proceeds from the race and the food drive benefit Matthew 25: Ministries’ work with the poorest of the poor and disaster victims in Greater Cincinnati, throughout the US and in more than 60 countries around the world. Participants are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to the race or the food drive. Matthew 25: Ministries accepts food donations from local individuals, groups and organizations, as well as bulk donations of food from corporate donors. Matthew 25 also welcomes financial gifts for the purchase of additional food staples. Non-perishable food items can also be dropped off at Matthew 25: Ministries from 9am – 4pm Monday – Friday and 9am – 3pm on Saturdays through November 30. All food donations are distributed to Greater Cincinnati pantries and shelters during the holiday season.

Lack of food is a critical local and global issue. Approximately 1 in 4 families in Greater Cincinnati are living with food insecurity. But with the help of our generous community, Matthew 25: Ministries can work with partners during the holidays to bridge the gap for families in need.

Matthew 25: Ministries accepts cash, credit card and internet donations for ongoing disaster relief and humanitarian aid programs. More than 99% of Matthew 25: Ministries’ cash and in-kind donations go toward programs. 100% of designated funds are used for the purpose intended.
