MATTHEW 25: MINISTRIES IS RESPONDING TO HURRICANE MILTON
Matthew 25 is Collaborating with Partners and Shipping Supplies to Impacted Communities
October 11, 2024, BLUE ASH, OH – – – Matthew 25: Ministries, a humanitarian aid and disaster relief organization headquartered in Blue Ash, OH is responding to Hurricane Milton, which made landfall as dangerous category 3 storm with maximum winds of 100MPH on Wednesday night near Sarasota, Florida. Milton intensified rapidly from a minor hurricane to a massive Category 5 storm in less than 10 hours. Milton brought heavy rainfall, powerful winds, extreme flooding, life-threatening storm surge and spawned multiple tornadoes throughout the impact area, which includes areas already battered by Hurricane Helene less than three weeks ago. The storm cut across the Florida peninsula leaving behind significant destruction before moving out to sea. The storm has resulted in at least 16 casualties and approximately 3 million people are without power. Milton is the third hurricane to hit Florida this year.
Matthew 25 is in contact with local and regional partners throughout the impacted areas and is preparing shipments of aid for rapid and long-term recovery efforts. Matthew 25 has responded to multiple hurricanes in Florida with services and supplies, including Hurricane Michael in 2018, Hurricane Idalia in 2023, Hurricane Francine earlier this year and most recently Hurricane Helene less than three weeks ago. Additionally, Matthew 25’s disaster relief resource map, detailing locations where people impacted by the hurricane can access services and relief supplies, will be available at https://m25m.org/resourcemaps/.
“This is a heartbreaking situation,” said Tim Mettey, CEO of Matthew 25: Ministries. “This is the third hurricane to hit Florida’s Gulf Coast area this year, causing additional damage to areas already trying to recover from Hurricane Helene, and impacting areas still recovering from Hurricane Michael in 2018. We are fortunate to have many committed, long-term partnerships in the affected areas, with whom we are working to bring hope and provide essential supplies to help impacted communities begin the long process of recovery and rebuilding.”
