Devastating Tornadoes Strike on the Anniversary of the 2011 Joplin Tornado


MAY 23, 2019 Cincinnati, OH – Matthew 25: Ministries is responding to devastating tornadoes that struck Jefferson City, MO and the surrounding area on Wednesday evening. Devastating storms and tornadoes ripped a path through Missouri and culminated in a violent tornado that struck Jefferson City, MO late Wednesday night. At least 20 injuries and 3 deaths have been reported as a result of the storms. The “wedge” tornado’s most extensive damage spanned approximately three square miles in and around Jefferson City, destroying homes and businesses, uprooting trees and damaging power lines. The storms on Wednesday struck on the eighth anniversary of a deadly tornado that killed 161 people in Joplin, MO in 2011.

Matthew 25: Ministries’ Disaster Response Team will be departing on Friday, May 24 at 8:00 AM for the Jefferson City area with a selection of Matthew 25’s Disaster Response vehicles. The response fleet includes two of Matthew 25’s customized pickup trucks as well as Matthew 25’s two customized co-branded panel trucks loaded with supplies such as P&G personal care kits, household and cleaning products, Cintas first aid and safety kits and supplies, and additional items such as Pampers diapers, Charmin toilet paper, Tide Pods and tarps. While on site, Matthew 25’s Disaster Relief Coordinator will also evaluate additional areas of need and meet with partners to discuss shipments of aid.
