Lower Your Wrecking Cost
There are many reasons why driving behind a truck is not a real treat. Two which come to mind: on city streets they are slow, and secondly, you can’t see much of anything else. The truck I found myself behind for about twenty minutes the other day was monstrous in size and “monstrously” slow. When caught in such a situation, especially when you are running late, you can either get upset and feel the old blood pressure rise or sit back and relax, knowing that the truck is not going to move any faster. And that’s what I did.
With nothing else to do, I read what was on the back of the truck…how much in taxes it pays each year, the various serial numbers, that it makes wide turns, “wash me” with a smiley face…and also this sign which not only told me what kind of truck this was but also got me thinking. The sign… “Lower your wrecking cost.” The truck was used in “wrecking” buildings, and apparently its company does it best and cheapest. You do the wrecking or if you use someone else, it’s going to cost you more. Let them do the job and “Lower your wrecking cost.”
The truck pulled off and I was on my way. Yet that sign stayed with me. I thought as I drove along how there are things in this life that can wreck us: emotional upsets, physical setbacks, spiritual conflicts.
CONSIDER, some we bring on, others are not our doing. In all of this they exact a high cost from us. While some of these things will always be with us, we can minimize their cost and others from happening if we stay close to Christ.
This hymn came to my mind; I sang it as I went on my way…
When we walk with the Lord in the light of His word,
What a glory He sheds on our way!
Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share
But our toil He doth richly replay.
Not a grief nor a loss, not a frown nor a cross,
Are for those who trust and obey.
