WEST COAST WILDFIRES 2021

UPDATED TUESDAY JANUARY 11, 2022 4:02 PM EST

Matthew 25: Ministries responded to the West Coast wildfires by shipping supplies to partners in California. In 2021, Matthew 25 shipped nearly 150,000 pounds of wildfire aid including basic essentials such as bottled water, personal care items, cleaning supplies, diapers, laundry detergent, and batteries.

The fire season in California and across the West is beginning earlier and ending later with each successive year. Warmer temperatures, reduced snowfall and earlier snowmelt continue to produce longer and more intense dry seasons that create conditions vulnerable to fires. In California, more than three times as much land burned in 2021 as during the same time span in 2020. In 2021, there were more than 5,000 fire incidents and over 230,000 acres burned in California.

Matthew 25 has responded to wildfires in California on multiple occasions including those in 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2020. Matthew 25 will continue working with partners to assess the ongoing needs of affected communities.
