CALIFORNIA & PACIFIC NORTHWEST WILDFIRES 2020

UPDATED THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 5, 2020 10:18 AM EST

Matthew 25: Ministries is responding to the wildfires by shipping truckloads of aid to partners on the West Coast. So far, we have sent 15 truckloads containing more than 350,000 pounds of supplies to help those who have been affected by these devastating fires. These shipments included personal care items, cleaning supplies, diapers, laundry detergent, batteries and other much-needed supplies. We will continue to help as long as there is a need.

The historic infernos burned more than 3 million acres. Hundreds of these fires were started by lightning and seasonal high winds helped to spread them across a vast region. Tens of thousands of people were told to evacuate. The National Weather Service issued air quality alerts for parts of at least six states: California, Nevada, Oregon, Idaho, Colorado and New Mexico. Approximately 8 million people in parts of California, southern Oregon, Montana, and southern Utah were under red flag weather warnings for lightning and erratic winds.

Matthew 25 has responded to wildfires in California on several previous occasions including those in 2015, 2017 and 2018. Matthew 25 will continue working with partners to assess the ongoing needs of affected communities. We will continue to provide aid as long as related needs exist and we are able to meet those needs efficiently and effectively.
