WEST VIRGINIA FLOODING 2026

UPDATED SUNDAY, JULY 26, 2026 6:00 PM EST

Matthew 25: Ministries is responding to powerful storms that deluged parts of north-central West Virginia with more than 7 inches of rain beginning Tuesday afternoon. A state of emergency identified as a PDS (Particularly Dangerous Situation) was declared across 55 counties late Tuesday. The heavy rainfall caused mudslides, flash floods, road blockages, hazardous conditions and the resulting widespread flooding damaged highways, bridges, utilities and other critical facilities, as well as homes, businesses and other private property. First responders performed more than 30 water rescues at the height of the flooding.

Matthew 25: Ministries is deploying its Disaster Response Team and specialized fleet of disaster response vehicles to support communities impacted by the flooding. Response efforts will include the Procter & Gamble Tide Loads of Hope mobile laundry unit, P&G and Walmart shower and restroom trailer, trucks loaded with essential relief supplies and other specialized disaster response equipment. The teams will provide critical services while distributing personal care items, hygiene products, cleaning supplies, paper products, first aid and safety kits, batteries, and other essential necessities throughout impacted areas. Matthew 25 will also be working with partners long-term to meet ongoing recovery needs.

“Matthew 25: Ministries has been supporting communities in West Virginia for more than 20 years,” said CEO Tim Mettey. “The impacted areas are areas we have visited multiple times and remain close to our hearts. Our teams are responding to these areas, bringing compassion, hope and the essential supplies and services needed for people to maintain their personal health while beginning the long road to recovery.  We are committed to standing alongside these communities throughout the recovery process.”
